Imo State Polytechnic is a state owned polytechnic that is located in Omuma Orlu,Imo state. The Polytechnic was Established in 1978.
Imo State Polytechnic started in 1978 as Imo State College of Agriculture with the purpose of producing manpower for the agriculture field of the state and also driving the agricultural policies made in the state. As at 0f 1978 the Polytechnic has two campuses,one is situated in Orlu while the other is situated in Ehime Mbano.
In 1979 the polytechnic was granted an autonomous status of becoming a legal entity and thus the first Governing board of the polytechnic was formed. In 2005 the Institution was renamed from Imo state College of Agriculture to Michael Okpara College of Agriculture Technology.
In the year 2007 the institution was changed from status of a college to polytechnic following after the approval by the state house assembly,though the Polytechnic has been upgraded it has not deviated from its original establishment objective which is to provide graduates who will serve well in the agricultural field of the country and state.
Imo state polytechnic has kept a good record,with 60% of its graduates self-employed and with the 40% working in the extraction fields across Nigeria.
Imo state Polytechnic offers programmes including National Diploma Programme, Higher National Diploma programmme, Pre-ND,Associates Certificate and Short courses.
The Polytechnic has a large expanse of land on which it operated, it is situated on over 360 hectares of land which is donated by the local community.
