Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic is a state-owned polytechnic that is located in Rumuola, Rivers State. The university is one of the best polytechnics across Nigeria and amongst the polytechnics that have transited multiple times to become a polytechnic.
Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic was formerly known as Port Harcourt Polytechnic. The institution was established as far back as 1977 as a school of basic studies to offer certificates for higher-level and advanced GCE, which is moderated by the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), and it had affiliations at that time with Ahmadu Bello University and Rivers State University of Technology.

Years after establishment the institution achieved multiple earnings, its transition from school to River State College of Arts and Science in 1992, and it secured multiple accreditations by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to offer diploma programs in the institution, giving it the right as a polytechnic.
In 2006 the polytechnic was able to secure multiple accreditations for various courses in the institution, and also in 2011 it was granted approval from NBTE to offer diploma programs in the courses. With this, the polytechnic was able to gain attention from the state government, hence making a shift in the institution in the level of infrastructure and facilities.
The Polytechnic’s success in 2011 secured multiple gifts, like laptops, from governmental and non-governmental bodies, and also it was able to host the association of Rectors in the institution with over forty (40) Rectors attending this event. In the year 2016, the Polyethnic was renamed from Port Harcourt Polyethnic to Elechi Amadi Polytechnic in honor of a popular, well-known author in Cross River.

Admission Requirement
° Applicants must possess five (5) credit passes in GCE ‘O’ Level or SSCE or WAEC or NECO or NTC or NABTEB or its equivalent at not more than two sittings.
° The credits must include English language and mathematics, which is compulsory for all courses.
° Applicants must also have credits in any three (3) subjects relevant to their chosen discipline.
HND Admission Requirements
° Applicants must possess a National Diploma (ND) in the relevant discipline with a minimum of lower credit from Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic or any recognized polytechnic.
° Applicants must provide evidence of one year post-National Diploma (ND) relevant Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).
